Randall County, Texas State Court Records

Randall County court records are the official paperwork created when a case is filed, heard, and resolved in the county’s trial courts. They provide an accurate record of what happened in a case, thereby serving as a solid reference for the parties, attorneys, and (when permitted) the public.

In Randall County, the Randall County District Clerk is the record custodian for district court cases. At the same time, the Randall County Clerk serves as the record keeper for matters handled through the County Clerk’s court functions, such as certain county-court and probate matters. According to the Texas Judicial Branch, the court clerk is generally the custodian of court case records. Therefore, the public is expected to seek access to court records from the District Clerk and County Clerk.

In Texas, common law, statutory law, and court rules govern access to court case records. The state law requires procedures to protect personal information in records stored by court clerks, by stating that county clerk records that are not otherwise restricted by law or court order are open to the public.

Randall County court records are related to, but separate from, other public records. Requesters may access vital records and other official public records through the County Clerk’s public records functions rather than through the district court case file system. Law enforcement typically creates arrest information at the time of arrest and booking, not the trial court, although a criminal case may later produce related court records. At the same time, the Amarillo Division of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas separately maintains federal case files for Randall County matters through the federal clerk’s office and PACER rather than the county’s state-court system.

Are Randall County Court Records Public?

Yes. Many Randall County court records are generally public; however, access depends on the type of case and whether a Texas law or court order has made it confidential. Texas common law, statutory law, and court rules govern court case records, and the clerk of the court is typically the custodian of these records. The Texas Judicial Branch explains that Rule 12 (Rules of Judicial Administration) applies to judicial records other than court case records. Therefore, the relevant court clerk handles requests for actual case files.

In practice, this means that most adult civil, criminal, family, probate, and other trial-court case records are typically available through the Randall County District Clerk, the Randall County Clerk, or the county’s official online court record portals. However, some case types may be restricted. For instance, juvenile records are confidential and sealed under Texas law, while the court seals adoption records. In addition, mental health court records are treated as public records of a private nature and may be inspected or copied only in accordance with the access rules set out in the statute. Records may also be withheld when they are sealed by court order or made confidential by another law.

What Information is Available in Randall County Court Records?

Depending on the case type, typical information in a Randall County court record may include:

  • Cause number
  • Court and case type
  • Names of the parties
  • Filing date
  • Docket or case-status entries
  • Scheduled hearings or court dates
  • Motions, pleadings, and other filed documents
  • Orders, judgments, or other rulings
  • Attorney information, when applicable

The Randall County District Clerk is located at 2309 Russell Long Boulevard, Suite 110, Canyon, TX 79015, phone 806-468-5600, with hours Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Randall County Clerk is located at 2309 Russell Long Boulevard, Suite 101, Canyon, TX 79015, phone 806-468-5505, with the same posted hours.

In Randall County, the district courts handle family law cases, and the District Clerk is the custodian of district court case files, including divorce, custody, and support matters.

Requesters may access these family-case types through the county’s official Court Records portal (Civil, Family & Probate Case Records); the District Clerk’s page links directly to the portal. Randall County also publishes family-related forms and fee information through the District Clerk, including family law standing orders and child support information. Although online access is available, requesters should note that it may not display every document or every restricted filing.

Under the Texas Family Code, adoption cases are filed in a new file with a new docket number. Adoption-related records are not handled like ordinary open civil files.
